Flipkart co-founder Sachin Bansal, Snapdeal co-founder Kunal Bahl, Paytm founder Vijay Shekhar Sharma, Quikr founder Pranay Chulet, Zomato founders Deepinder Goyal and Pankaj Chaddah, and Inmobi co-founder Abhay Singhal received the Indian of the Year Awards.
Transformational Leader of the Year Award
First woman Chairperson of the State Bank of India Arundhati Bhattacharya received the Transformational Leader of the Year Award. She said: “Reality is that this is a bank that has withstood challenges for 209 years. We had the support of everybody.”
Business Leader of the Year Award
Sun Pharmaceuticals founder Dilip Shanghvi received the Business Leader of the Year Award.
Outstanding Service to the Nation Award
Actor Siddharth along with IAS officers Amudha, Gajalakshmi, Gagandeep Singh Bedi and young boys Ashok, Arjun Murugan, Arjun Raman received the Outstanding Service to the Nation Award. Actor Siddharth: “Here on behalf of all the faceless, unsung heroes who helped out during Tamil Nadu floods.”
Actor of the Year Award (Female)
Bollywood actress Deepika Padukone, who featured in Piku, Tamasha and Bajirao Mastani in 2015, received the Actor of the Year Award (Female). Deepika Padukone: “I think today (pay parity) has been addressed and we are definitely headed in the right direction.”
Entrepreneur of the Year Award
Visually impaired Srikanth Bolla, CEO of Hyderabad-based Bollant Industries, received the Entrepreneur of the Year Award. “When I applied for a call centre job at MIT, they said you can’t get it. I asked them to give me two headsets.” Today he has created a Rs 50 crore venture by employing people with disabilities to manufacture eco-friendly packaging solutions
Lifetime Achievement Award
The Lifetime Achievement Award went to Bollywood actor Amitabh Bachchan and cricketer Sourav Ganguly.
Amitabh Bachchan: “Greatful that at this age I get to do different roles.”
Saurav Ganguly on coaching Team India: “You can’t do both at the same time. I am an administrator right now.”
Real Tiger Award
Belinda Wright and Valmik Thapar received the Real Tiger Award. Amitabh Bachchan on the wildlife conservationists mission: “I commit myself to the target you set (3000 tigers by 2020) and will stand with you.”
Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award
Art entrepreneur Neha Kirpal received the Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award. Neha Kirpal: “Someone said that in 15 years we may have to go abroad to see the best of Indian art.”
Entertainer of the Year Award
Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh, who featured in films like Dil Dhadakne Do and Bajirao Mastani in 2015, received the Entertainer of the Year Award. Ranveer Singh: ” The hustle was too long, you have to swallow your pride, grovel to get your break in films.”
Actor of the Year Award
Irrfan Khan, who featured in films like Piku, Talvar and Jurassic World in 2015, received the Actor of the Year Award (Male). Irfan Khan: “If an actor is told to shut up it’s not a good sign for society. We should feel safe to say whatever we want.”
Global Indian of the Year Award
Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella received the Global Indian Of The Year Award. Satya Nadella: “Each time I visit India I am encouraged by its advancement. Its greatest strength is the ingenuity of its human capital.”
Against All Odds Award
Pranav Dhanawade, who scored 1009 not out in an inter-school cricket tournament in Mumbai, received the Against All Odds Award.
