Celebrating Mahashivratri
Hindus around the UK are geared up to celebrate the festival of Mahashivratri in reverence of Lord Shiva. This year Mahashivratri coincides with International Women’s Day and not many are aware that one of the forms of Lord Shiva is Ardhanarishvara (half man and half woman). It represents the synthesis of masculine and feminine energies of the universe and illustrates how Shakti (the female principle of God) is inseparable from Shiva (the male principle of God) and it is this union which is the root of all creation.
